NOLA TRANS MARCH, FRIDAY, APRIL 24th (*UPDATED*)

Join us April 24, 2015 for New Orleans’ very first youth-led Trans March!

Meet at 3:15pm (march steps off promptly at 3:30pm) at corner of Ursulines and N. Claiborne this Friday.  Press conference and community gathering to follow at Ursulines and N. Claiborne at 4:30pm.

Open to people of all gender identities, expressions, and experience, NOLA Trans March is not a demonstration but rather, a revolutionary movement.

Take a stand against the hate, social injustice, and inequality faced by trans, gender variant, gender queer, and gender non-conforming (T|GV|GQ|GNC) communities. Issues such as violence, lack of healthcare, lack of housing and employment opportunities, police brutality, the suicidal rate amongst trans men of color, and other forms of discrimination against T|GV|GQ|GNC youth are just a few of the concerns being voiced.  We will lift up the life of Penny Proud, one of 10 transgender women of color who have already been murdered in the United States since January.

But NOLA Trans March is also a celebration of the triumphs we have experienced in our city, campaign victories, and the resiliency of T|GV|GQ|GNC youth of color.  With the aim to increase visibility, the NOLA Trans March is an affirmation of our beauty, strength, and diversity.

Milan Nicole Sherry, march founder and Youth Organizer with BreakOUT! says, “We are committed to creating revolutionary change and working to create a safer, more inclusive New Orleans for everyone. Black Trans Lives Matter!”

Can’t make the march but still want to show your support?

Join in on social media during the march at 3:30pm (CST) using hashtags #NOLATransMarch2015 #MakePennyProud and #BlackTransLivesMatter
