We Deserve Better!
BreakOUT!’s main campaign currently is to fight harmful discriminatory policing practices against LGBTQ youth in New Orleans.
The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) was recently named the most corrupt police department in the country, as evidenced by the recent investigative report released by the Department of Justice. This report named bias toward LGBTQ individuals one of the top concerns with the NOPD. Further, in a quick survey of our peers, we found that 15 out of 15 young African American transgender women in New Orleans reported being stopped by the police and given no reason for being stopped.

Specifically, BreakOUT! would like to see:
- A model LGBTQ policy within the NOPD
- LGBTQ training for the NOPD based on "best practices" and
- An Advisory Board to the NOPD made up of LGBTQ youth who are directly impacted by police targeting and profiling.
