The Trans 100, released on the International Transgender Day of Visibility, pays tribute to trans people and their positive, extraordinary advocacy in an effort to “celebrate the living.”
In its second year, the list is sponsored by GLAAD, Chicago House, and This is HOW, and includes BreakOUT! Director, Wes Ware among the 100 leaders in the community. Kye Allums, athlete and founder of Project I Am Enough, delivered the keynote address this year at the announcement in Chicago, along with actress and advocate Laverne Cox, who visited our office last month and mentioned BreakOUT! in her closing remarks!
Wes is humbled to be named alongside colleagues and comrades across the country and to walk alongside the fierce transgender young women of BreakOUT!, whose beauty and resilience inspire him everyday. He is particularly grateful for the powerful leadership of transgender youth of color in New Orleans who are paving the way toward liberation for all of our communities.
You can watch the clip here at 1:55:16 and see Laverne Cox give a special shout out to BreakOUT! at 2:15:49.
